Session Objectives
  • Perform an appropriate Physical examination including use of the Slit Lamp and Ophthalmoscope.
  • Be able to differentiate normal from abnormal eye findings.
Ophthalmology Skills :
  • Measure and record Visual acuity at distance.
  • Examine pupil response
    Examine eye movements
    Use the slit lamp to examine the anterior segment.
  • Use the direct ophthalmoscope
  • to examine the red reflex ( that first step to see some of details)
ENT Skills : A) Ear
Otologic history taking for common otologic problems:

  • Ear discharge
  • Otalgia
  • Infant hearing loss
  • Adult hearing loss
  • Dizziness
  • Facial weakness
  • otoscopy
  • Tuning fork tests

Interpretation of basic audiogram (hearing test)

  • Otoneurologic examination
  • Dix-Hallpike maneuver and the Particle Repositioning Maneuver
  • Cranial nerve examination
  • Cerebellar function .
B) Nose and Paranasal Sinus
History taking for common nasal problems:


  • Nasal obstructionNasal dischargeFacial pain
  • Anosmia
  • Epistaxis
  • Anterior rhinoscopy
  • Exposure to endoscopic examination of the full nasal cavity
  • Identification of normal structures within the nasal cavity
  • Examination of the external nasal structures
  • General appreciation of plain films and CT scans of the nose.
C) Examination of the oral cavity including bimanual palpitation
  • Dentification of salivary duct openings
  • Assessment of the oropharynx
  • Pharynx and LarynxExamination of the pharynx as well as an Exposure to endoscopicexamination of these anatomical areas .
D) Neck
  • History taking for common neck/visceral problems:
  • Thyroid nodule
  • Neck massii. Examination of the head and neck and its
  • visceraAppreciation of normal anatomy
  • Identification of the triangles in the neck
  • Identification of surface anatomy of normal anatomical structures, such as thecarotid artery, thyroid gland, salivary glands, laryngeal structures
